Who this is for
Micro Filed is built for directors of simple micro companies who want to handle their own year end without an accountant — typically a single-person or small limited company: contractors, freelancers, landlords with a property company, and dormant companies kept on the register.
- ✓A single company, not part of a group
- ✓Small enough to qualify as a micro-entity
- ✓No audit required
- ✓Straightforward finances you can confirm yourself
What are micro-entity accounts?
The smallest UK companies can file a stripped-back set of accounts under a standard called FRS 105. They're much simpler than full accounts — essentially a short balance sheet with a few notes. Your company can usually use them if it meets at least two of these three limits:
Turnover
£1 million or less
Balance sheet total
£500,000 or less
Employees
10 or fewer
Today that's essentially just a balance sheet. From April 2028, micro companies will also have to include a profit & loss account — and Micro Filed is being built to handle that too.
What you actually need to file
Most micro companies have up to three separate filings each year, to two different places. They're easy to mix up — here's the quick version.
Annual accounts
Your FRS 105 micro-entity accounts. Due 9 months after your year end. Free to file today — this is what Micro Filed will file for you.
Confirmation statement
A yearly check that your company details are correct. A separate deadline with a small fee paid to Companies House. We remind you and point you to the right page.
Corporation Tax (CT600)
Your tax return and computation, due 12 months after your year end (tax paid earlier). Combined filing is coming to Micro Filed.
What's changing & when
The free ways to file are closing. Two dates matter for micro companies:
March 2026
The free joint-filing service closed
HMRC and Companies House switched off their combined accounts service. Filing the two halves separately is now the norm.
April 2028
Companies House closes free web filing
Accounts will have to be filed through commercial software, and micro companies will have to include a profit & loss account for the first time. The free “web filing” route most micro companies use today goes away.
